THE Polish Embassy in Qatar will host a reception to mark its National Day, as well as to celebrate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Qatar and Poland on April 28. The event will be the ambassador’s first diplomatic reception in Doha.
Ambassador of Poland to Qatar HE Janusz Janke said that the collaboration between Qatar and Poland is thriving in a number of important fields and is emphasised by a number of high-level visits. “Two years ago, the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani visited Warsaw, which marked a significant step in the development of our mutual relations. Only this year we had a visit of Poland’s deputy minister of entrepreneurship & technology and of Warsaw Stock Exchange’s CEO. In April, a high-level Polish parliamentary delegation attended 140th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly. In mid-April we also held bilateral political consultations in Warsaw. Obviously, there are plans for further visits this year,” the envoy told Qatar Tribune.
Janke assumed office as head of the Polish diplomatic mission in Qatar in September, last year. Prior to his Doha assignment, he was the chief expert and then counsellor of minister in the Department of the European Funds in the Ministry of Energy, where he was in charge of the supervision of projects implemented with EU funds.
“I am proud to witness the ever increasing interactions between Poland and Qatar, which contribute to building mutual trust and understanding. Polish cities, which belong to the best ones in the EU in terms of quality of life, have proven to be attractive destinations for both students and tourists from Qatar, while as a regional hub for flight connections, Qatar is becoming increasingly popular among Polish tourists. With their growing presence in the market, Polish companies participate in the diversification of the Qatari economy whereas hundreds of Poles working for the local companies contribute to the development of Qatar,” the envoy said.
When asked about the upcoming Polish cultural activities, the ambassador said that following the successful participation of Polish musicians in the Katara Jazz Festival last year, a similar concert is being planned for the next edition of the festival.
He added: “We would also like to present before the local and international audiences in Qatar our visual artists and filmmakers. Besides, in November, together with Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, we will present one of the most talented Polish contemporary pianists who will perform one of Chopin’s concertos.”
