THE National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency ‘Tarsheed’ achieved significant reduction in electricity and water consumption resulting in saving to the tune of QR 1.75billion in 2018.
This was revealed at the seventh anniversary celebrations of Tarsheed organised by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation ‘Kahramaa’ under the slogan ‘Towards Sustainability’ in Doha on Tuesday.
Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs HE Saad bin Sherida al Kaabi and General Secretary of Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) Hassan al Thawadi attended the event.
Delivering the keynote address, Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari said that the programme has cut electricity consumption by 6295 GWh, water consumption by 33.22 million m3 and natural gas consumption by 60642 MCF (million cubic feet) despite the challenges faced by Qatar due to the illegal blockade.
A short film entitled ‘Towards Sustainability’ was also shown depicting the milestones of Tarsheed during 2018, which marks the first year of its second phase with its new initiatives and upcoming plans until 2022.
An exhibition on Tarsheed programme and skit presented by Qatari students to highlight the programme were the other attractions of the celebration.
The prime minister and the minister of interior also honoured the winners of various competitions.
The celebration also witnessed the felicitation of the winners of Tarsheed 2022 project.
The winners included Ashghal (Trauma and Emergency building at HMC), Katara Village Foundation (Katara Beach Club), Mawani Qatar ( Mawani building at Hamad Port), Msheireb Properties (Residential building S3), Qatar Academy -Wakra, Mandarin Oriental Hotel and Qatar University. Students and teachers who participated in various contests were also honoured.
Kahramaa launched Tarsheed in 2012.
The programme aims to reduce per capita electricity consumption by 6 percent, water by 10 percent and harmful carbon emissions by 7 percent by 2022.
