The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs (MADLSA) is carrying out intensive inspections at worksites across the country to ensure their compliance with safety, health and professional regulations. The drive will continue until April-end.
Beginning May, the ministry will also conduct surprise inspections at worksites and companies to ensure they comply with the standards and conditions of work set for the Holy Month of Ramadan. It is also being done to ensure that all companies strictly follow the working hours scheduled for the holy month.
In addition to ensuring that companies comply with wage protection regulations, the inspections also aim to ensure that workers at the companies are all legal ones. It will help address the phenomenon of runaway labour.
A source familiar with the matter said the new thing in this campaign is that it will conduct a field survey on small companies with one or two workers.
Some of the companies have long been violating legal procedures, regulations and laws because of their presence in remote locations. However, with continuation of the inspection campaigns and strict administrative procedures against violators, small companies are forced to correct and modify their conducts and conditions.
In a recent interview with Qatar TV, Jair al Marri, head of the occupational safety and health department at MADLSA, said there is a plan to inspect all worksites in the country. Workers must enjoy their rights and must not be exposed to any accidents or problems. This can be ensured only when companies comply with safety and security requirements.Drive aims to ensure compliance with safety & health regulations
