Qatar Charity (QC), with the support of the people in Qatar, has opened an orphanage in the Swat District of Pakistan to accommodate 100 orphans.
The opening ceremony was attended by local officials and diplomats from the Qatari Embassy in Pakistan.
The orphanage, located about 180 km from the capital Islamabad, has five large halls for the accommodation of orphans sponsored by QC, in addition to a dining hall, kitchen, prayer room, administrative offices, and play and entertainment spaces. The orphanage was built on an area of 365 square metres.
The orphanage was opened by Second Secretary at the Embassy of Qatar in Pakistan HE Massoud Taleb al Azabi. The ceremony was also attended by Ameen Abdul Rahman, director of QC’s office in Pakistan, and several local officials and members of the Board of Directors of Khpal Kor Foundation, which will run the orphanage.
After the opening, the guests visited the facilities of the orphanage and attended a presentation on QC’s efforts to serve orphans and its projects in the Swat district, in addition to listening to the recitation of the Holy Quran and the national anthem by orphans.
In his speech, Ameen Abdul Rahman thanked the guests for attending the ceremony and reminded the orphans of the importance of learning to carry out an outstanding performance in their lives. He also promised to implement more development projects throughout Pakistan to provide special care for orphans and ease the suffering of poor families.
QC started its activities in Pakistan in 1992 by sponsoring five orphans. The number of those sponsored by QC rose to 6,000 persons during the current year, including orphans, people with disabilities, students and poor families. QC oversees all the sponsored in Pakistan directly through its field supervisors available across the country.
