With the demand for food items surging during the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Central Market is meeting all the needs of the consumers, thanks to the major role played by local farms in supplying vegetables and fruits.
The Central Market, which is operating in two shifts daily to meet the growing demand, is offering vegetables and fruits at reasonable prices.
While onion, tomato and cabbage are available for QR2 per kg each, cucumber is selling for QR1.5 per kg, eggplant for QR3.5 per kg, corn and chili peppers, for QR3 per kg each, zucchini for QR1.5 per kg, honey melon for QR9 per kg, cauliflower for QR2.5 per kg, and lettuce for QR12 per box of 5 kg.
A bundle of rocca costs QR2, parsley QR2.5 and coriander QR3. A box of fresh mint (5kg) costs QR20.
The Omani market, adjacent to the Central Market, is also bustling with activities.. A box of Indian mangoes is available for QR40 and strawberry box sells for QR20. Iranian water melons are available for QR3 per kg.
Dates are also available at the market in good quality and quantity. Customers could choose between the saghai (QR45 per kg), sukkari (QR35 per kg) and mabroom (QR55 per kg) dates of the Kuwaiti import, as well as the khalasi (QR25/ small box) of the local production. Other products such as fresh ghee from local farms can be bought at competitive prices.
