A team of students from Birla Public School (BPS) recently highlighted the importance of United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the Al Khor International School (AKIS) in Al Khor.
BPS is one of the many schools across the world that has joined hands with the UN to promote its 2030 SDG agenda as part of its “Think Globally, Act Locally” project that calls for concerted efforts at grassroots level for the larger good of the planet.
On April 15, BPS students and teachers visited AKIS and made a presentation on why the UN goals for 2030 are a blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all.
The BPS students paired the Powerpoint presentation with a dance-and-song performance, prompting their counterparts in AKIS to give them a standing ovation at the end of their programme.
In her address, BPS Vice-Principal Bhavna VS urged the students to strive to become instruments of change and develop a sense of responsibility towards the world in which they live.
She also called on schoolchildren across the country to come together and pledge to save the environment.
Grade-IX student Rushali Nair compared the programme, while grade-VII’s Nora Jacob proposed the vote of thanks.
In a statement, BPS said Priya Sadasivam, the Head of Senior School at AKIS, has been supportive of the collaborative programme since Day One.
Marshal D’Silva, Sreelakshmy Sujith, Betty Leone, Litty Jacob, Sanchita Banerji and Anam Shariq from Arts, Music, Dance, IT and Social Science departments have been instrumental in making the programme a success, the statement said.
