Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) announced the winners of the sixth edition of Hajikka Memorial English Essay Writing contest in Doha, recently.
Students from 10 prominent schools in Qatar including Bhavans Public School, Delhi Public School-MIS, Doha Modern Indian School, MES Indian School, Shantiniketan Indian School, Ideal Indian School, Birla Public School, Noble International School, Pearl School and Olive International School, participated in two categories -- Juniors (Class VII, VIII and IX) and Seniors (Class X, XI and XII).
In the Juniors category, Sara Kamlesh Somaiya of DPS Modern Indian School bagged the first prize, while Blessy Boby of Noble International School and Aaisha A Khan of Olive International School received the second and third prizes respectively. The consolation prizes went to Innaya Fathima of Doha Modern Indian School, Shashank Sajeethraje of Pearl School and Manasa Balakumar of Pearl School.
In the Seniors category, Valencia John from MES Indian School got the first prize, while Hridya Raju of MES Indian School received the second prize and Amrita Madhu Nair of Ideal Indian School bagged the third prize. Students who received consolation prize included Ashtami J of MES Indian School, Nanditha Gopi of DPS Modern Indian School and Thanishi Ponnamma of Ideal Indian School.
Coordinating officer of ICBF and the First Secretary of Indian Embassy SRH Fahmi distributed the awards to winners.
Principal of Doha Modern Indian School PS Narayanan and former president of ICBF Hassan Chougule were the guests of honour on the occasion. ICBF president PN Baburajan presided over the function.
Speaking on the occasion, SRH Fahmi appreciated the school authorities, teachers and students for their participation and the work done by ICBF. He also recommended areas of improvement for ICBF activities urging them to reach out to more members of the community. He also appreciated the entities that have supported ICBF in meeting its objectives.
On the occasion, volunteers from associated organisations who supported the International Labour Day celebrations at Asian Town organised by ICBF in association with the Ministry of Labour and Department of Public Relations, Ministry of Interior, were also awarded certificates of appreciation.
Meanwhile, ICBF presented a token of appreciation to Doha Modern Indian School, which was handed over to Principal PS Narayanan by the functions’s chief guest SRH Fahmi. Also, a token of special appreciation was presented to Assistant Principal, DMIS V Suraj for the extensive support extended for the smooth conduct of the Hajikka Memorial English Essay Writing Contest.
MV Abdul Khader Haji, fondly called Hajikka, was a social activist who left the community with a legacy of 40 years of humanitarian services and benevolence. Hajikka was always in the forefront of rendering helping hand to the needy in the community who sought his assistance, irrespective of the religion, nationality and language.
The event was attended by ICBF vice president Mahesh Gowda, president of Indian Sports Centre Nilangshu Dey, NORKA Roots Director & Director CV Rappai, and ICBF officials Rajani Murthy, Santosh Kumar, Avinash Gaikwad, Subramanya Hebbaglu, Nivedita Dutta, Juttas Paul, Ziad Usman and Senthil Agastheeswaran.
The event concluded with an iftar.
