Educational leaders need to review and evaluate their work periodically in recognition of the great responsibility placed on the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and its duty to work on achieving the aspirations of the wise leadership, Minister of Education and Higher Education HE Dr Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed al Hammadi has said.
In a speech during the annual Ramadan meeting held by the ministry, the minister called on stakeholders to work efficiently, create more innovative development initiatives, reward positive practices, delegate powers, and practise transparency and accountability.
Dr Hammadi also called on stakeholders to promote equal opportunities and focus on concrete results and outputs, and develop a culture of planning, action and achievement in the educational environment.
On the end of the academic year, the minister expressed hope that Qatar’s students will achieve better results in the end of the second semester exams.
He said the ministry relies heavily on exam results because they are indicative of the effectiveness of the school efforts and the efficiency of the educational system.
The results also reflect the extent to which the ministry achieved its vision of providing innovative and high-quality learning opportunities to the Qatari community and the effectiveness of its role in achieving the goals and objectives of the Qatar National Vision 2030, especially with regard to the human development pillar, he said.
The minister also stressed the importance of the school’s interaction with parents and how to communicate with them, and the best ways to integrate its role with the home and with other partners.
He added that addressing poor performance at all levels is also the responsibility of the ministry, pointing out that efforts must be redoubled to achieve greater success to meet the aspirations of the leadership, especially concerning quality in education.
Dr Hammadi praised the achievements of Qatar’s schools and students during the current academic year at local, regional and international levels.
He honoured school principals who have completed 30 years in service as a recognition for their services to the country and in preparing future generations.
He also honoured schools that ranked first in international tests (TIMSS, PISA, PIRLS) at the state level, which is part of the evaluation system that allows students to compare performance of Qatar’s students with the performance of their counterparts in other countries.
The minister also honoured schools with very good assessment in the academic performance evaluation for the 2018-2019 academic year.
