Confectionaries and bags full of goodies were distributed to children at Katara as the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) began the celebration of the mid-Ramadan festival of Garangao on Sunday.
The Garangao bags usually contain different kinds of nuts and sweets, especially blended and decorated for the unique occasion.
A special venue was set up at the Amphitheatre in Katara esplanade to give away gifts to children, who wore specially-designed traditional costumes for the occasion.
Katara has been celebrating the festival of Garangao every year for the past several years as part of its commitment to preserve the culture and heritage of Qatar. It has also been organising several artisan workshops that train children to make things related to Ramadan, such as lanterns and other such decorations.
