The Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani met with a number of US officials at the headquarters of the US Congress in Washington DC on Wednesday.
The Amir’s meeting with Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi reviewed the strategic bilateral relations and the ways to enhance them in different fields. The meeting also dealt with the latest regional and international developments.
The Amir also met with Chairman of the Armed Services Committee of the US Senate Senator Jim Inhofe and members of the committee Senator Jack Reed, Senator Mike Rounds, Senator Angus King, Senator Rick Scott, Senator David Perdue, Senator Marsha Blackburn, and Senator Richard Blumenthal.
They discussed the strategic bilateral relations in the military, defence and security fields as well as the joint efforts to combat terrorism and its financing. Members of the committee praised the role played by Qatar in this regard, thanking the Amir for the expansion of the Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, as well for hosting more American forces. The meeting also covered the latest regional and international developments.
The Amir met with Chairman of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs Eliot Engel, Vice-Chair of the Committee Joe Wilson, Chairman of the Middle East, North Africa and International Terrorism Subcommittee Ted Deutch, Vice-Chair of the subcommittee Michael McCaul, Steve Shabot and Brad Sherman. The meeting dealt with the bilateral relations and cooperation, and expanding them in different fields.
During another meeting, the Amir and Chairman of the US House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence Adam Schiff reviewed the strategic bilateral ties, particularly in the field of security, in addition to the scope for enhancing them.
The Amir also met with Chair of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Senator James Risch and Vice-Chair Senator Bob Menendez. Members of the committee Senator Mitt Romney, Senator Ted Cruz, Senator Lindsey Graham, Senator Rob Portman, Senator Marco Rubio, Senator Ben Cardin, Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Senator Tom Udall, Senator John Isakson, Senator Ron Johnson, Senator Tim Kaine, Senator John Barrasso, Senator Jeff Merkley, Senator Todd Young and Senator Edward Markey attended the meeting.
The meeting discussed the strategic bilateral relations and the ways to enhance them in different fields. Members of the committee praised the strong cooperation ties between the two countries, especially on the political and military fronts. They also praised Qatar’s expansion of the Al Udeid Air Base and hosting of more American forces.
The meetings were attended by members of the official delegation accompanying the Amir.
