THE stage is set for the much-awaited 8th edition of South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) to be held at the sprawling Lusail Sports Arena on August 15-16.
Legendary actors Chiranjeevi and Mohanlal will be the guests of honour at the event, which will see the presence of many luminaries from the South Indian film industry.
The major entertainment event being hosted in Qatar for the first time is part of the grand finale of the ‘Summer in Qatar’ programme of the Qatar National Tourism Council (QNTC) and is being managed by ONE FM 89.6.
Around 600 guests, including 90 percent of the South Indian celebrities coming to Qatar for the first time around, are expected to attend the event. The event celebrates the achievements of South Indian cinema in terms of art and technique in four categories namely, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
According to the organisers, about 7,000 spectators are expected in each show, while 90 percent of the South Indian celebrities coming are first timers to Qatar.
At a press conference in Doha recently, Mashael Shahbik of QNTC underlined the importance of hosting SIIMA in Doha, given the vibrant cultural exchange and initiatives between Qatar and India including the rich celebration of Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019.
