THE vibrant Pakistani community in Qatar celebrated their country’s Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm on Wednesday.
The celebrations of the day kicked off with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony held on Pakistan Embassy premises in diplomatic area in the morning. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Syed Ahsan Raza Shah unfurled the white-green Pakistani flag while Pakistan’s national anthem was played.
A smart contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces presented a march past much to the excitement of the community members.
Speaking on the occasion, the ambassador congratulated his compatriots on the auspicious occasion of their country’s Independence Day. He recalled the unique independence struggle and the great and unparalleled sacrifices made to achieve the same.
The ambassador said the Independence Day inspires all Pakistanis to serve the country with greater dedication and to raise the green flag, which symbolises hopes and aspirations, even higher.
Reiterating complete solidarity with the Kashmiri people, the ambassador called upon the international community to play its due role in seeking an end to “the brutalities, violation of human rights and the reign of terror unleashed by the Indian forces”.
“Pakistan reiterates its unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Indian-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for the realisation of the inalienable right to self-determination in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions,” said the ambassador.
The ambassador said that the bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar are based on historical bonds of a shared fate, heritage and culture. The visit of the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to Pakistan in June and by Prime Minister Imran Khan to Qatar in January this year have further strengthened the relations between the two fraternal nations, he said.
Describing the Pakistani community as “a living bridge between Qatar and Pakistan”, the ambassador expressed his pride in the community’s contribution to the remarkable progress and prosperity of Qatar. He said the Pakistani expats in Qatar were full of love for their country and were zealously participating in Pakistan’s progress and development. He expressed confidence that the Pakistan will successfully overcome all challenges by following the teachings of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Muhammad Iqbal in their true spirit.
A large number of Pakistani expatriates attended the function despite it being a working and extremely hot day. The attendance of families and children was unprecedented.
Keeping in view the hot weather, the second part of the function was held in the embassy’s auditorium.
Third Secretary Sarwar Hussain and Commercial Secretary Salman Ali read out Independence Day messages of President Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of Pakistan led by Community Welfare Attache Hafiz Junaid Sial.
A special cake was cut to mark the occasion. The guests were served traditional Pakistani breakfast.
