Two dead as blasts hit militia group position at Iraq’s Balad air base

Baghdad: An explosion took place at a weapons depot affiliated with an Iranian-linked militia north of Baghdad, a police source said on Tuesday. The depot is part of a camp for the Hashd Shaabi Shiite militia, or the Popular Mobilization Forces. Two other camps linked with the militia have been hit by explosions since July. The camp is near Balad Air Base, where US forces are stationed, in Salah al-Din province, some 80 km north of the capital. The cause of the explosion is still unclear, the source said, adding that two fighters were killed and five were injured. (DPA)
