Poetry and stage drama lovers in Qatar recently watched Argentina’s tango presented by world’s renowned artists Giorgia Marchiori and Marcelo Guardiola, at the Katara Drama Theater.
A 75-minute long stage performance show was held in collaboration with Katara Cultural Village Foundation, and the Argentine embassy. The show comprised seven short stories on tango. Choreographed by Giorgia Marchiori and directed by Marcelo Guardiola, they charmed the audience with the mix of their highly skilled artistic performance and selected poetry.
The seven episodes included The Barrel Organ, The Emigrant, The Fall, The Fall 11, The Milonga, The Betrayel and Paper Heart.
The Paris-based duo has performed twice earlier in Qatar, Oman, Canada and most of the European countries including Russia.
Noelia Paola Romero, the spouse of the Argentinian envoy to Qatar, said, “Buenos Aires is the birthplace of Tango and watching it far away from the home country, in Qatar, was certainly inspiring. We were so glad to see the audience enjoying the show.”
She said that mixing dance and mime was an added experience for her. She also lauded the passion for Tango in Anil Kumar, a Doha-based event organiser of Tango Club.
Marcelo, an Argentinian national, enjoys his stay in Qatar and is inspired from its rapid development.
Italian national Giorgia is a student of philosophy with passion in tango and supported with the beautiful verses of poetry, which she says helps in expressing her philosophy of life through mime and dance.
