Qatar Chamber’s (QC) First Vice Chairman Mohamed bin Twar on Wednesday met with Cuban Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maury Hechavarria Bermudez in the presence of QC Board Member Mohamed bin Ahmad al Obaidli.
The meeting touched on trade and economic relations between Qatar and Cuba, ways to enhance cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries and exploring investment opportunities in Cuba’s agricultural sector.
Addressing the meeting, Twar said the Chamber was keen on promoting relations between Qatari business owners and their counterparts from all over the world. The relations between Qatar and Cuba, he said, were good and their leaderships were interested in developing them further.
“Food security is a priority for Qatar and the private sector is eager to learn about the business opportunities in Cuba in that area, especially in agriculture and livestock production,” Twar said.
He stressed Qatar’s efforts for achieving self-sufficiency and assured the Chamber’s cooperation to promote opportunities floated by the visiting delegation among the Qatari business community.
Terming the Cuban-Qatari ties as historic, Bermudez said the objective of his visit was to inform the Qatari side about the Cuban investment climate and sectors in which Qatari investors can invest in.
He said the two sides have had many successful partnerships in several sectors, such as health. Cuba is also known for its agriculture, tourism, livestock, technology and construction, and these fields hold a lot of potential for foreign investments, he added.
Bermudez urged Qatari businessmen to visit his country to identify the opportunities and meet with Cuban company representatives to discuss forming joint ventures.
QC Board Member Mohamed bin Ahmed al Obaidli said Cuba could contribute significantly to Qatar’s pursuit of food security through cooperation in the agricultural sector, especially in producing coffee and livestock feeds.
