Qatar Development Bank (QDB) on Sunday announced the launch of its “Entrepreneurship Leave Program” for citizens, in cooperation with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MADLSA).
The programme aims at supporting Qatari entrepreneurs working in various government institutions by providing them with paid leave from their jobs to become full-time entrepreneurs and helping them develop their existing projects in accordance with the plan agreed with QDB.
In order to benefit from the programme, the monthly salary of the employee should not exceed QR50,000, QDB officials said at a press conference on Sunday. QDB will receive applications for the programme from October 13 to December 24.
The programme targets Qatari nationals with government jobs, who want to devote their time fully to develope their own existing projects.
An employee wishing to benefit from the new programme should have a minimum age of 18 years, and have a project running for at least two years with audited financial statements. The applicant must also have a professional experience of at least three years and be employed with the same employer for at least one year on the date of application.
CEO of QDB Abdulaziz bin Nasser al Khalifa said the move is part of the bank’s efforts to engage and support the business community and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in driving the development of the entrepreneurial climate in the country, including among Qatari employees in the government sector.
Khalifa added that this category of entrepreneurs has demonstrated great potential for the development of private, pioneering and successful projects, taking advantage of the experience obtained from their work places.
He noted that chances of the entrepreneurs to be selected for the programme
would be high if the project is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, it’s innovative or meets a national need.
Director of Policies and Human Resources Planning Department at the MADLSA, Fahad Mohammed al Khayareen said the ministry seeks to cooperate with various government and non-government institutions in the state to encourage the private sector and engage the government sector in achieving this target, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
