Qatar booked a ticket to the 2020 AFC U-16 championships after an 11-0 demolition of Bhutan at the Aspire Dome on Sunday.
The win by the young guns, moved them top of Group E with seven points ahead of Yemen on goal difference. Yemen earlier on Sunday had beaten Bangladesh 3-0 putting the pressure on Qatar to better the goal tally of their rivals.
Yemen had thrashed Bhutan 10-1 in their opener while Qatar eased past Bangladesh 2-0. The top sides then played out a 1-1 draw on Friday.
Rashid al Abdulla got the Qatari youngsters early in the match after his short bounced in front of Bhutan goalkeeper into the net.
Mubarak Shanan added a second from the penalty spot before Mohammed al Quraishi also dispatched his penalty.
More goals came in the second as Abdulaziz al Naimi smashed in Qatar’s third. Captain Mahdi al Mejaba scored the pick of the bunch when he drilled in a sizzling strike from 25 yards out. Quraishi got his second of the night minuted later and Abdulla made it seven on the hour mark. Not to be denied, Abdulla’s hat-trick came in the 67th minute when the youngster beat the offside trap and with the goalie at his mercy, he held his nerves to slot home.
Hassan al Ghareeb headed home the ninth goal and Mubarak’s penalty made it 10.
In added time, substitute Abdulrahman al Dosari scored the all-important 11th goal to send the Young Maroons through to the Championships.
Meanwhile second half goals from Mohammed Ali Hasan and two from Hamzah Ahmed Mahross helped Yemen past Bangladesh. The Yemenis still have a chance to go through as one of the four teams to finish second best in the qualifiers.
Elsewhere, in Group C, Iran qualified as winners after beating Afghanistan 4-0.
Iran will make their 12th appearance in the Finals as they sailed to three wins in Group C, with Afghanistan finishing as group runners-up.
Palestine ended on a high note after defeating Maldives 4-1 on Sunday.
India also emerged Group B winners after playing to a 1-1 draw with hosts Uzbekistan at the Jar Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams finished on seven points with India taking top spot due to a better goal difference. Turkmenistan finished third after defeating Bahrain 2-1 in the other Group B tie at the Transportation Institute Stadium.
In Hanoi, Australia came from behind to edge Vietnam 2-1 to book their spot.
Both teams went into the final Group H tie with a perfect record of three wins but the Australians saw off the spirited challenge of Vietnam, with their fans backing them at the Vietnam YFTC Field in Hanoi, to take top spot.
