Members of Bayanihan Qatar, a federation of more than 20 Filipino community groups mainly from the grassroots sector, took part in a community clean-up drive held along Filipino Souq on Friday.
The initiative is the fourth edition of its kind spearheaded by The Filipino Community (TFC), one of the most active members and supporters of the advocacies of Bayanihan Qatar. The umbrella organisation, Bayanihan Qatar, was formed in June 2017 to extend a helping hand to the community through outreach initiatives. It was formally launched in August 2018.
Armed with thrash bags and other cleaning tools, the participants gathered at the venue around 3pm and begun the cleaning operations which had earned praises from passers-by mainly those non-Filipinos. The Filipino Souq is one of the most populated areas in the capital particularly during the weekends.
Commenting on the occasion, Bayanihan Qatar President Jerry Ronquillo said, “We are proud of this programme of TFC that promotes cleanliness and caring for the environment while at the same time demonstrates our utmost respect to the host country. In this simple gesture, we hope to be able to give back to the generosity of the Qatari government and to this country that many of us consider as our second home. I hope other organisations will replicate this kind of activity in other parts of Qatar.”
The participating organisations included Grupo Filipino, Buklod, Kabisig, Doha Dabarkadz, PGBI Expats Chapter, Qatar-Pilipino Helping Hand, FI, GRII, NIKTK, OBQ, Kapuso, GGBAI, FFQ, AGWI, among others.
