THE Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Doha has become the latest diplomatic mission to join the Green Embassies Programme in Qatar spearheaded by Elite Paper Recycling (EPR) following the signing of a MoU between the two parties on Sunday.
The partnership. which covers collaborations in promoting environmental sustainability and recycling across the programmes and activities of the embassy, was signed by Moldova Embassy Charge d’affaires Mihai Clapaniuc and EPR Chairman Abdulla Ibrahim al Suwaidi.
EPR’s Green Embassies Programme in Qatar is geared towards the protection of environment by reducing the use of paper waste through recycling and running campaigns to educate people about reducing wastage. The growing network has so far included the embassies of Uruguay, Switzerland, Italy, Tanzania and Argentina.
“I have the honour to thank EPR for their fantastic initiative on promoting recycling at the embassy level. This activity, together with the Eco Dome project, Eco School, Green Partner and many others are in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030 and its goals and priorities. We are honoured that through your hard work, we can play a small part in the vision by recycling our daily wasted papers”,Clapaniuc said.
He added, “For us this new partnership is important, because we can serve as a role-model for the visitors to the embassy and the wider community who can learn about the benefits of recycling and switch to doing so as well. I hope that that this practice becomes a new-norm in Qatar and also globally in due course. I also hope that not only paper, but other materials such as glass and plastics, also get recycled in future.”
The Moldovan official mentioned in this context the adoption of a law in his country aimed at gradual cease of use of plastic bags in commercial activity.
Commenting on the occasion, EPR Chairman Suwaidi said, “We are keen on having joint environmental sustainability and recycling activities as well as community awareness events under the Green Embassies in Qatar in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The green initiative is about recycling to reduce and reuse the paper products that we make. EPR is committed to deployingwaste bins on the embassy premises and regularly collecting all waste paper and cardboards in order to recycle them.”
