Dhaka: A Muslim devotee jumps on to another train as he arrives along with others to take part in the annual Muslim gathering ‘Biswa Ijtema’ in Tongi, some 30 kms north of Dhaka, on Sunday. Hundreds of thousands of Muslims on Sunday prayed for global peace and unity during one of world’s largest Islamic gatherings near the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka.
The Bangladeshi leader of International Tablighi Jamaat Mohammad Zobaer led the concluding prayers of the first phase of annual gathering on the banks of river Turga, nearly 30 kilometres north of Dhaka. Organisers estimate nearly 2 million devotees braved chilly weather at the mass prayers over three days. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina accompanied by her sister Sheikh Rehana joined the prayers from her official Ganabhaban residence in Dhaka, according to the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha news agency.
