Celebrating Qatar’s National Sport Day, AFG College with the University of Aberdeen, in collaboration with Nasser Bin Khaled group and Al Waab City, organised the third annual Fun Run at Al Jassasiya Street in Al Waab.
The event was attended by AFG’s Founder and Chairperson Dr Sheikha Aisha bint Faleh al Thani, Chairman of NBK Holding Sheikh Nawaf bin Nasser al Thani and Business Development Manager at NBK Group Sheikh Khaled bin Nasser al Thani, along with staff and families of AFG College, partnering and sponsoring companies and the public.
More than 800 participants, including students, lecturers, senior representatives of the supporting companies, families and members of the community, took part in the 3km run and enjoyed the various fun activations presented by Phiit Studio and Bounce.
Dr Sheikha Aisha said: “Every year, the vision of HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, the Amir of Qatar, is reflected by promoting sports as a lifestyle. The National Sport Day is the culmination of this vision and paves the way for the current and next generations to follow a healthier way of life. We at AFG College adopt sports as a main component in our curriculum, encourage our staff, students and professors to do sports as a regular daily routine.”
Sheikh Nawaf said, “The participation of NBK Holding and its subsidiaries in this event is a clear indication of our full commitment to the vision of the Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani. Our celebration of the event is in line with our continuous effort in supporting the national and community events which encourage people to meet and compete. Our objective is always to help raise a new generation which considers sports a major part of the lifestyle.”
Russell Williams, provost of the AFG with the University of Aberdeen campus in Qatar, said, “The university continues to promote a culture of sports, physical and mental health as part of the modern education experience. It was great to see so many members of our community join us for this Sport Day event. A special mention also goes out to our sponsors and partners for the invaluable support they have provided for the event.”
At the end of the Fun Run, winners received prizes. The first place winner received a two-way ticket to Istanbul, while the second place holder got a two-way ticket to Adana.
