Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab, presented by Longines, will bring the world’s best riders to Doha, and is the perfect opportunity for Qatar’s expatriate communities to show support for athletes from their own countries.
This was the unanimous message from members of Qatar’s Spouses of Head of Missions (SOHOM) and ambassadors who visited Al Shaqab, member of Qatar Foundation, for a tour of the equestrian centre.
A key part of their visit was to learn more about the Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab, Qatar’s premier equestrian competition, which will take place in the Longines Arena of Al Shaqab from February 27 to 29, and see top-ranking riders compete in the Olympic disciplines of showjumping, dressage and para dressage.
The SOHOM group and the ambassadors were impressed by the exceptional facilities and the magnificent Arabian horses of Al Shaqab. They expressed their enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
The consensus was that the event presents a perfect opportunity for the expatriate community in Qatar to come together to watch world-class equestrian sport and enjoy the family entertainment on offer while supporting their compatriots.
Lilian Muzel, vice president of SOHOM and spouse of the ambassador of Germany to Qatar, said: “As a group, SOHOM is involved in the social part of the work done by our respective embassies, and it’s important that we keep up to date with the latest information regarding events such as Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines.
“The preparations are truly impressive, especially considering the logistics involved in bringing together the world’s best riders and horses to compete against each other over three days.
“The entertainment and fun activities on offer at the festival area add to the attraction and make the event a perfect outing for the whole family.
“All of us will be encouraging our communities to show up in large numbers at the event and to support and cheer the riders from our countries.”
CHI (Concours Hippique International – International Equestrian Competition) is the official title awarded by the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) to international equestrian competitions with three or more equestrian disciplines. Commercial Bank CHI Al Shaqab Presented by Longines is one of only five CHI competitions worldwide and the first and only equestrian event of its kind in the Middle East and Asia region.
