Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar HE Prof (Dr) WM Karunadasa on Thursday dismissed as rumours the possible closure of the Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha.
Addressing a press conference, the ambassador, who is the patron of the school, stressed the need for transparent functioning of the school management.
"Following complaints of some of the parents of the wards studying in the Stafford School regarding lack of transparency at the management level, I decided to intervene and follow up this matter personally," the ambassador said.
Karunadasa continued,"Being an academician myself, it is my utmost concern to see that the school which is founded as a non-profit organisation to serve the Sri Lankan community in Qatar runs to its full potential and achieves its objectives of serving the community to the best of its ability."
"I am also keen to initiate the expansion of the school in order to accommodate students on the waiting list so that their parents are not forced to send them back home for studies," he added.
He further said,"There is, no doubt, a greater need to bring transparency in the functioning of the school. The management of the school needs to realise that it has a responsibility towards the community in terms of providing high standard education."
The ambassador pointed out,"It is important that the school must follow the Sri Lankan curriculum so that students have no problem in catching up with their studies back home. Moreover, the fees charged by the school must also be affordable and not exorbitant."
Finally, the ambassador stressed upon the need for the management of the school to function in a transparent manner respecting the legal framework of the educational system followed by the host country.
Karunadasa said it is his duty to see that the school is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and academicians and the trust of the parents is restored and they feel that their children's future is safe in the hands of the best in the industry.
