QATAR Charity (QC) Board Chairman HE Sheikh Hamad bin Nasser bin Jassim al Thani has inaugurated an Islamic Center in Piacenza city, northern Italy, in the presence of a number of QC officials and Islamic figures, local officials and a number of members of the Muslim community.
The Piacenza Islamic Centre serves the Muslim and local communities, and consists of a large mosque which accommodates more than 600 worshippers and multi-purpose halls for seminars, lectures and various activities such as Ramadan iftar.
The Muslim community, the second in Piacenza city in terms of number with more than 28,000 Muslims, comprises people from different nationalities.
Speaking on the occasion, HE Sheikh Hamad said that the opening of the centre comes out of the QC's vision as a leading developmental and humanitarian organisation in response to the growing demand for schools, cultural and educational centres in Europe, in particular, and the world in general to contribute to strengthening the bonds of brotherhood and support initiatives, programmes and projects aimed at achieving sustainable development and peaceful coexistence.
