SOUQ Al Wakra is set to host Spring Festival from January 19 to February 13. The festival will feature artistic activities as well as entertainment shows and games for children.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Manager of the Souq Al Wakra Khalid Saif al Suwaidi said that the festival is being held at the souq which is ideally located and it overlooks the sea for the first time.
Suwaidi said one of the highlights of the activities will be staging of an operetta on life in Qatar before the discovery of oil and gas. The operetta focusing on people's dependence on pearl diving will depict the horrors of the sea.
The operetta will be presented by Director Faisal al Tamimi with a group of Qatari actors. A small game zone for kids will also be established near the parking area, he added.
According to Suwaidi, the second day of the festival (January 20) will see 15-minute fireworks for the first time. Suwaidi said that though Souq Al Wakra was coordinating with Souq Waqif in Doha to organise the festival, the activities in both the places as part of the festival will be entirely different from each other in order to give people more options.
It is noteworthy that Souq Al Wakra has enlivened Al Wakra city drawing large number of visitors. It has become a favourite destination for outings as the souq includes cafes and restaurants and a charming view in addition to traditional buildings portraying Qatar's architectural heritage.
