Qatar Development Fund (QDF) on Sunday signed a $5 million agreement with Turkey's Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF) in the presence of HE Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al Thani, Foreign Minister and QDF Chairman.
The agreement was signed by QDF General-Director Khalifa bin Jassim al Kuwari, and United Nations' Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O'Brien.
Kuwari said the signing of the agreement to support HPF stressed Qatar and QDF's keenness to support Syrian people through humanitarian and development assistance programmes.
He stressed Qatar's long-term support for Syrian refugees in times of crisis while QDF continues to back thousands of them through humanitarian operations and assistance to those affected by the ongoing crisis in Syria.
O'Brien called on the international community to follow the example of Qatar and provide assistance for humanitarian operations in Syria, pointing out that such contributions could save Syrians' lives, especially women and children.
O'Brien thanked Qatar and QDF for their contributions and efforts in alleviating the suffering of those affected in different parts of the world.
