New radars made in Qatar will be installed on Qatar roads soon to monitor traffic violations and help improve road safety.
This was announced by Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic Brigadier Mohammed Saad al Kharji at the opening of the 33rd GCC Traffic Week at Darb Al Saai on Sunday.
Representatives from GCC countries and senior traffic officials participated in the opening ceremony and exchanged their experiences and discussed new traffic safety measures."The new speed radar has been developed using advanced technology and conform to international standards," Brig Kharji explained.
He said the new radar was developed in cooperation with private companies. It will be put on trial for one year to evaluate its performance.
Brig Kharji also announced a new"Smart System" to conduct tests for driving licenses. The new smart system will enable applicants to monitor their performance during the test and guarantee fair evaluation and transparency, he added.
Special sensors and cameras are fitted in the test vehicle to observe behaviours of applicants during driving test.
Brig Kharji said the Traffic Week celebration has grown bigger over the years.
He appreciated the involvement of school students and youth getting a chance to contribute to this awareness campaign. The Traffic Department has dedicated special pavilions for school students of different levels and from both genders.
Major Zakia al Sennawi from Omani appreciated the effective contribution of public and private sectors in organising the traffic week celebrations. Captain Bader al Mutairy from Kuwaiti said the preparations for the Traffic Week celebrations in Doha are huge. He said every corner has a unique impact and gives a new contribution in the campaign.
