Lekhwiya and Al Jaish clubs will be merged into one under the name of Al Duhail Sports Club from next sports season, the Ministry of Culture and Sports has announced.
The ministry said Lekhwiya Club has submitted an application for taking necessary measures to register and announce a new statute for Lekhwiya Sports Club, changing its name to Al Duhail Sports Club.
Lekhwiya Club has also sought the formation of a general assembly to delineate powers and competencies stipulated in the law governing the organisation of sports clubs and operate under the name of the new club and its logo from the next sport season.
An application for merger of Al Jaish Sports Club with Al Duhail Sports Club has also been submitted. A committee is to be set up to complete the merger.
The committee will be chaired by the president of the Qatar Football Association.
