Qatar's armed forces are the best in the region and there's a new law for national service before the Shura Council, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs HE Dr Khalid bin Mohammed al Attiyah has said.
This came in a statement during the programme"Truth" on Qatar TV.
"The Qatari armed forces are distinguished, the units, the officers, the non-commissioned officers, and the members of the armed forces. I say with pride that they excel at the regional level. Their readiness and morale are high. And there is guidance from the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to develop the armed forces," Attiyah said.
He revealed that a new law for national service is now before the Shura Council.
"We have developed the National Service Law to meet the needs of the youth," he said.
On resolving the Gulf crisis, Attiyah said,"Since the beginning of the crisis, the Emir has mentioned that dialogue is the best way to resolve any dispute. We continue to think that there are those who listen to the call of the Emir of Kuwait and sit at the negotiating table."
"Qatar is always open for dialogue. We have nothing to fear and we hope for a solution through dialogue," he added.
In response to a question about the truth about reports that a military intervention in Qatar was planned in 2014, Attiyah said,"We in Qatar are afraid only of God. The people of Qatar have trust in the Emir and the Emir's confidence in the people is great."
On terrorism, Attiyah said,"The accusations of the blockading countries that Qatar supports terrorism are void as Doha has harnessed its capabilities to combat terrorism."
He expressed surprise over comments made by an Emirati official about Qatar 2022 World Cup."I was surprised when an Emirati security official asked to claim the 2022 World Cup in return for ending the Gulf crisis, although he is an Arab."
