Qatar is among the largest producers of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), with an annual capacity of 77 million tonnes per annum, and among the largest suppliers to the world, Minister of Energy and Industry HE Dr Mohammed bin Saleh al Sada has said.
In a speech at the fourth Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Summit in Santa Cruz, Bolivia, on Friday, Sada said,"Qatar will remain at the forefront of LNG suppliers."
"Qatar intends to remain a leading player in the future as well, meeting the market demand. Hence the recent visionary directive of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani to raise Qatar's LNG production by about one third, to reach 100 million tonnes per annum and be fully operational by 2024."
Sada said,"Qatar puts a very high value to its relationship with its customers, and has not missed a single shipment to its customers worldwide even under the most challenging conditions of the blockade currently being imposed on the country."
Sada, who was leading a delegation of Qatar to the summit, praised the status of GECF, describing it as"a well-established internationally recognised professional organisation, providing authoritative, well-researched information on natural gas."
He said the growth of GECF has mirrored the growth of natural gas over the past one and a half decades in what has rightly been termed as the 'Golden Age of Gas'.
He added that natural gas is forecast to replace coal as the cleanest and second most important fossil fuel.
GECF organises a summit every two years to discuss developments, policies related to the energy sector in general, and the gas industry in particular.
The fifth summit will be held in Equatorial Guinea in 2019.
