Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohammed al Kuwari reviewed the measures in place at the Hamad International Airport to monitor passengers for coronavirus infection.
Dr Kuwari inspected the thermal cameras and a medical clinic set up at the airport to screen passengers and deal with suspected cases. She also reviewed the preparedness of the medical staff at the airport.
While thermal cameras help authorities read body temperatures of incoming passengers, the medical clinic is fully equipped to deal with passengers suspected of having coronavirus infection.
The minister called for maintaining high alert to detect, isolate and report any suspected cases of the global epidemic.
Dr Kuwari was accompanied in her tour by General Authority of Civil Aviation Chairman Abdullah bin Nasser Turki al Subaie and several senior officials of the Ministry of Public Health and the Hamad International Airport.
With more coronavirus cases emerging in South Korea and Iran, Qatar has put in place additional measures to tackle the epidemic from spreading within the country. It has readied several fully-equipped buildings in case a large number of people have to be quarantined and made 14-day home or hospital isolation mandatory for people coming to Doha from China, South Korea and Iran.
Travellers coming from countries that have recorded a noticeable increase in coronavirus infections should also undergo strict examinations.
While no coronavirus case has so far been confirmed in Qatar, the Ministry of Public Health recommends that travels to China, South Korea, Iran, Singapore, Japan and Italy be postponed.
