DOHA: The Qatari Al Gannas Association has announced the launch of the Qatar International Falcons and Hunting Festival competitions in its 15th edition (Marmi 2024), starting on Monday, and continuing until January 27, at Sabkhat Marmi in Sealine.
Miteb Mubarak Al-Qahtani, President of the Marmi Festival, explained that the opening of the festival will be with the Talaa tournament during the morning period, starting from the first day of the festival, and continuing until January 7, during which 34 groups will compete, with five groups each day, except for the last day of the festival. On January 7 fourgroups will compete.
At the end of the qualifiers, the draw for the next round will be conducted and broadcast live on the accounts of the Al-Gannas Association on social media. Thedate of the next rounds will be determined later after knowing the number of qualifiers.
Al-Qahtani indicated that from the first day in the evening, the Hadad Al-Tahadi Championship between peregrine falcons and carrier pigeons will begin, in which 31 groups will compete this year. On January 5the qualifiers will be held for the eighth group. During the morning period, as for January 6 and 7, the Hadad Challenge qualifiers will begin during the evening period for the ninth and tenth groups, respectively, and on January 8 and 9 during the morning and evening periods for groups 11 to 14, respectively, while during January 10, 11, 12, and 13, the competition will be in Hadad Challenge during the evening period for groups from 15 to 18, respectively, and on January 15, 16, and 17 for groups 19, 20, and 21, respectively, during the evening period.
He noted at the same time that on days from 18 to 21, the Challenge qualifiers will be held during the morning and evening periods for groups of 22 to 29 in a row, while the penultimate group will hold its competitions on the evening of January 22, and the curtain will come down on the qualifiers in Group 31 on the evening of Tuesday, January 23. The final of Hadad Al-Tahadi will take place on Friday, January 26.
Al-Qahtani also revealed that on the evening of Friday, January 5, the Junior Falconer Championship and the Promising Falconer Championship competitions will be held, in addition to the Saluki racing championship qualifiers to win a seat in the final, the date of which will be determined at a later time.
He noted that registration is for children and future falconers, It will be in the same place, explaining that the Promising Falconer Championship (11-15 years old) includes two competitions: the mountain falconer category (Al-Shuwaihinah), then the Al-Wakri Al-Kobaj category (Al-Qarmousha). As for the Junior Falconer Championship (6-10 years), the participants will be tested on... Their information about falconry tools and falconry components, to enrich their knowledge and cultural knowledge about the ABCs of falconry.
Al-Qahtani indicated that the local invitational championship for the categories (Chicken Free - Qarnas Free - Chick Al-Jir - Qarnas Al-Jir - Qarnas Shaheen - Chick-Jir Shaheen - Qarnas Gair Shaheen) will be held on January 11, 12 and 13, whereby the team will qualify for the final, which will be held on Wednesday, January 17. The international invitational (all categories) will take place on Sunday, January 14, while the elite round is scheduled for Monday, January 22.
The head of the Marmi Festival confirmed the festival’s keenness annually to organise the Mazayen Championship on the closing day of Marmi, which specializes in the aesthetics of falcons. He explained that this season it would be in categories: the white and blond wild beast (chicken and hornbills), and the black and grey wild beast (chicken and hornet), He called on the contestants to register for this tournament, especially (international), in addition to the invitational tournament (international), revealing at the same time that registration is open three days before the competition.
He noted that the organizing committee of the Marmi Festival has set several conditions for registration in the Al-Mazayen Championship, including a copy of the passport, the falcon chip number, the name of the tournament, and the category of the participating falcon.
The Social and Sports Activities Support Fund (Daam) is considered one of the bodies supporting the Marmi Festival 2024.
