Qatar's Taher Hussain, who had earlier defeated Mohammad Alhmood of Kuwait 7-3, lost 0-7 to Yang Shing Shun of Chinese Taipei as action continued at the World 9-Ball Championship being held at the Indoor Hall of Al Arabi Club in Doha on Wednesday.
About 244 players representing 47 countries from all continents are participating in the tournament which kicked off on Tuesday for the tenth consecutive year and will be held until December 15.
A total of $200,000 is up for grabs in prize money at the championship with the winner going home with $30,000 while the finalist will pocket $15,000 with the semi-finalists earning $7,500 each.
In the other matches of the day, Philippines'Jeffrey Ignacio beats Hsieh Chia Chen of Chinese Taipei 7-2 while Akagariyama Yukio of Japan rolled over Kuwait's Meshaal al Murdhi 7-4.
In the first round of the tournament, 128 players will compete for 12 seats to qualify for finals, as well as the 116 players selected by the International Federation based on their ranking.
On Tuesday, Qatari Alaa Bata defeated Kuwaiti Ahmed al Fadhli (7-1) and Qatari Saif al Nuaimi defeated Syrian Khaled Abdullah.
Qatari player Tahir Hussein also beat Jordan's Moaz Abdul Kader 7-3, and Qatari player Abdullah al Halili beat Hassan Safaris from Maldives (7-0).
The organising committee is giving an opportunity to all players and residents of Qatar to participate in the first stages of the competition in the hope of catching new cards in the main rounds.
Qatar is represented by six players, who will play against the best 116 international players. A large number of Qatari players and residents will participate in the preliminary stages in the hope of booking other seats in the finals.
This is the third international tournament hosted by Qatar Billiard and Snooker Federation in a month, after hosting the English Open World Snooker Championship and the World Championship Snooker categories, men, women and masters.
