The president’s son Bilal Erdogan accused Israel of “genocide” in Gaza during a speech.
The war in Gaza was triggered by a massacre by Hamas, considered a terrorist organization in Europe and the United States, but not in Turkey.
On October 7, fighters from Hamas and other groups murdered around 1,200 people in Israel and kidnapped around 240 others to the Gaza Strip. Israel responded with massive airstrikes and a ground offensive.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the attack in Israel but later described Hamas, which was responsible for the attack, as a “liberation organization.”
Erdogan has also repeatedly and harshly attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his actions in the war in Gaza, labelling him the “butcher of Gaza” and recently comparing him to Hitler.
Netanyahu had countered, saying Erdogan is committing “genocide” against the Kurds, adding that the Turkish leader is not in a position to dole out such criticism.
More than 21,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the war began, according to the Hamas-controlled health authority. (DPA)
