DPACanet-en-Roussillon (France)Tadej Pogacar has not given up on winning a third straight Tour de France as he vowed on the final rest day Monday to attack overall leader Jonas Vingegaard in the upcoming crucial stages. The Tour heads into the Pyrenees for three days from Tuesday onwards, with two summit finishes, and UAE team captain Pogacar wants to make up most of the current deficit of 2 minutes 22 seconds before a deciding time trial in the penultimate stage Saturday.“I must take every chance and attack on every climb to gain some time every day. I hope I don’t regret anything in the end,” he said.“I must close the gap before the time trial. Jonas is really good. I won’t bet on the time trial and hope to gain 30 seconds or two minutes there.” Last year’s runner-up Vingegaard took the overall lead last week in the Alps where he also fended off a Pogacar attack the following day.Saturday’s time trial is over 40.7 kilometres and Pogacar was only eight seconds faster than Vingegaard in the first one over 13.1km at the start of the Tour in Vingegaard’s native Denmark.Pogacar added that he would not be upset should he remain behind Vingegaard at the end on Sunday in Paris.“It is not the end of the world if I don’t arrive in Paris in yellow.Second place is good as well,” he said.
