DOHA: Wang Chuqin successfully defended his Men's Singles crown at the end-of-season WTT Finals after lighting up Lusail Sports Arena with a 4-0 victory over top seed Fan Zhendong (11-8, 11-9, 14-12, 11-7) on the final day.
In the doubles competitions, Yuan Licen and Xiang Peng won the inaugural WTT Finals Men's Doubles title after defeating the experienced pairing of Lin Gaoyuan and Lin Shidong in straight games (11-8, 11-2, 11-8).
President of the Qatar Table Tennis Association (QTTA) and president of the Arab and Asian federations, First Vice-President of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), Khalil Al Mohannadi crowned Wang Chuqin with the championship cup, while ITTF CEO Steve Dainton, crowned Chinese Fan Zhendong with the second place award.
In a related development, QTTA and the ITTF officially signed the contract for Qatar to host the 2025 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals for the second time in its history after the 2004 edition. The championships's logo was inaugurated on the sideline of the ceremony.
QTTA President Khalil Al Mohannadi expressed his happiness at the resounding success of the WTT finals. He considered the success of the first of a total of four world championships that Qatar will host as another step that motivates the QTTA efforts to officially prepare for the largest event, which is the 2025 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Finals.
Al Mohannadi said that the signing of the hosting contract represents another step that stimulates QTTA's efforts to officially prepare for this major event, adding that the QTTA has become one of the best federations in the world in terms of the distinguished organization of major international table tennis tournaments.
