AMBASSADOR of the Philippines HE Alan Timbayan praised the progress made by Qatar in various fields, appreciating the country's excellent efforts in facing all the current challenges.
"As the National Day of Qatar approaches, we should take stock of not only the rapid economic development of the country, but also the progress it has made on other fronts, such as the continued effort to comply with various international standards and obligations regarding migrant labour," the ambassador said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA).
"The Philippines, as a country with a significant expatriate population here, applauds this and congratulates Qatar on its continued progress as a country and society," he said.
Moreover, he noted that his country and Qatar are continuing to explore ways to strengthen their cooperation and they are in the midst of forging a closer relationship.
The visit of President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte to Qatar in April this year has opened more doors for cooperation, he said, pointing out that this confirms the importance of his country's continued relationship with Qatar.
Regarding Qatar's handling of the siege, the ambassador said,"Qatar has exerted excellent efforts in managing the current situation and continues to address the challenges it faces, such as the uninterrupted provision of necessities and services, thus ensuring a normal life for its citizens and residents alike."
He also stressed the position of his country which calls for a peaceful settlement of the issue. (QNA/Doha)
