With the support of philanthropists in Qatar and under the ‘Rofaqaa’ initiative, Qatar Charity has succeeded in increasing the number of sponsored orphans in Bangladesh to provide care for them, bearing the expenses of their education and preserving their human dignity.

A total of 1,578 new orphan children were sponsored, bringing the total number of sponsored children in Bangladesh to 4,668 orphans from various regions of Bangladesh and Qatar Charity is working to increase this number in the coming years. Qatar Charity also supports to 300 teachers and needy families in Bangladesh by providing various assistance, bringing the total number of those it sponsors in Bangladesh to 4,968 people.

This step was greatly welcomed by the children and their families, as the sponsored orphans expressed their overwhelming happiness at receiving Qatar Charity’s sponsorship to meet their basic needs, including education.

Shuravi Akhtar, an orphan student studying in the Ghazipur area, said: “My father died when I was five years old, and it became difficult for my mother to bear the expenses of my education and I almost stopped studying, but now I am very happy with the support of the good people in Qatar and Qatar Charity so that I can have a bright future.”

For her part, Alif Mia, an orphan student from the Narayangonj area, said: “We were pleased with Qatar Charity’s sponsorship because I will receive a monthly financial reward. This will ease the burden on my mother and will help me focus more on my studies and my future. Thank you to the people in Qatar for this achievement that brought joy back to our hearts and to the hearts of our mothers.”

For their part, the students’ parents thanked the good people in Qatar and Qatar Charity for taking care of their children.

Jarina Khatoon, mother of an orphan, said: “After the death of my husband, I live a difficult life and it has become very difficult to pay for my children’s education. I am grateful to the people of Qatar who help widows and bring joy and happiness to the hearts of orphans.”

As part of its Rafaqa initiative, which cares for orphans around the world, in 2023, Qatar Charity opened four orphanages in Bangladesh, each of which includes several facilities to provide an appropriate environment for their education and care, benefiting 800 orphan children.

These homes were established in three different areas of Bangladesh - Gazipur, Meherpur and Brahmanbaria, each of which includes several classrooms, a dormitory section, a kitchen and a dining hall, in addition to teachers’ rooms.
