DOHA: The Cultural Village Foundation - Katara - released 5,000 carrier pigeons, on Thursday, marking the launch of the activities of its programme accompanying the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qatar, which will continue until February 10.

The event was organized in Katara's Al-Hikmah Square, in the presence of a large audience, who expressed their celebration of the richness of the programme and its inclusion of various forms of Qatari and Asian culture, art, heritage, and popular heritage.

The programme includes 46 diverse events in different locations in Katara, combining knowledge, education, entertainment, the aesthetics of contemporary creativity and heritage arts, including a street art festival, military music choir performances, parachuting and joint special forces parades under the supervision of the Qatar Air Sports Committee, and Qatari heritage arts performances.

Fans of art, culture and heritage will also have a date with a series of artistic, cultural and heritage exhibitions, such as Qatari fine art, postage stamps for the Asian Cup, the Museum of Traditional Wooden Bearings, the history of the Oud instrument, and the Katara International Amber Exhibition.

In addition to the exhibitions Katara International for the Peoples of Asia with the participation of 70 Qatari artists and designers, five experiences from the land of Mesopotamia, ceramics, another about Sadu, and the Stars of Asia exhibition organized by the Qatar Photography Centre.

The programme also includes a fashion show of the traditional costumes of the countries participating in the Asian Cup, a variety of interactive events and workshops, children’s competitions, and cinematic shows, while Katara organizes a group of artistic and heritage markets, such as the crafts market and the Art Market for handicrafts, arts and designs.

The programme celebrates the Qatari hunting heritage with the participation of the Qatari Al-Gannas Association, in addition to holding the Al-Mazayen Championship, while the Thuraya Astronomical Dome presents various shows, such as a journey around the solar system, planets and space through two- and three-dimensional displays, and Wisdom Square also hosts Brazilian Ricardinho to break the Guinness World Record by dominating on the ball without it falling to the ground.
