Captain and centre Mohamed Yousuf Mohamed nailed four of his teams 11 three pointers in his 22-point contribution and set up a facilie 85-75 victory for seven-time champions Qatar Sports Club against Al Sadd Club during the Qatar Basketball Federation League in Al Gharafa on Tuesday.
In another match, Khobi Ibrahim had a superb double-double of 23 points and 16 rebounds to guide Al Khor Club to a 79-73 victory against Al Ahli Club.
An eight-point run at 9-8, in which Mohamed contributed five points, gave Qatar Sports Club an early push and they outscored the 2012-13 champions Al Sadd Club 21-13. Later, they shot 18 points clear in the post-interval period before wrapping up their sixth victory in seven games.
Al Sadd Club's win-loss record was 4-3 after this defeat.
Apart from Mohamed, guards Brandan Kearney and Baden Jaxen also excelled and offered commendable support to the team's main scorer. Kearney added 20 points and seven assists, while Jaxen hit 18 and offered eight assists.
Forward Nicholas West notched up a fine double-double with 17 points and as many rebounds.
For Al Sadd Club, forward Mike Moser had 21 points. Forward Babacar Dieng netted 17, while point guard Moustafa Fouda and shooting guard Julius Coles Jr got 14 and 11 points. The team showed resilience in the final quarter and battled hard to outscore the winners 28-21 to narrow down the margin of the defeat.
Third win for Al Khor Club
Al Khor Club managed to shake off Al Ahli Club in the final quarter and went on to post their victory with a 79-73 triumph. Khobi Ibrahim was their driving force with a double-double but point guard Jawan Davis narrowly missed out on his triple-double.
Davis hit six three-pointers off seven attempts while scoring 22 points. He also made 10 assists but could gather only eight rebounds. Darrell Blackmon Jr also played well for the winners, chipping in 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
Nenad Zivchevic had a game-high 25 points, besides grabbing nine rebounds for Al Ahlic Club, who lost six out of seven games so far. Ndoye Elhadj Seydou (22 points and 10 rebounds)and Nemanja Besovic (18 poins and 14 rebounds) were other players to shine for the vanquished side.
