Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani on Wednesday reviewed the achievements of the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) in 2017, the progress made in realising its goals and the execution plans for infrastructure projects in 2018.
A total of QR21.8 billion has been earmarked for Ashghal to carry out infrastructure projects in 2018.
While QR11.08 billion has been earmarked for building highways, QR8.88 billion has been allocated for developing infrastructure for land owned by citizens and QR1.84 billion for setting up sewer pumping stations.
The PM also directed Ashghal to complete its projects within the scheduled time as per the policies of the Emir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, giving priority to infrastructure for land owned by the citizens and projects related to the 2022 World Cup.
The PM also directed the authority to continue refurbishing national factories and increase the local component in infrastructure projects.
In a statement, Ashghal President Saad bin Ahmed al Mohannadi said the authority's achievement in 2017 was many times more than that achieved during the previous four years. More than 60 percent of the achievement has been recorded only after June.
He said Ashghal will complete 90 percent of all projects related to the World Cup 2022 during 2018.
One of the top priorities will be to prepare the infrastructure for residential areas in line with the directives of the PM for adding new areas to the infrastructure plan for lands belonging to citizens.
