The Police Academy celebrated on Thursday the graduation of students from Ras Laffan Emergency and Safety College (RLESC) as well as the graduation of the first mandatory qualification course for graduates of civil universities from the Women’s Police Institute.
The ceremony, which was held at the College headquarters, was attended by Legal Advisor to HE the Minister of Interior and General Supervisor of the Police Academy Major General Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, Director of Public Security Major General Abdullah Mohammed Al Suwaidi, President of the Police Academy Brigadier General Abdulrahman Majid Al Sulaiti, in addition to a number of department directors at the Ministry of Interior and the Lekhwiya Force, representatives of a number of state agencies, members of the Academy’s Supreme Council, faculty members, as well as parents of graduates.
Director of the RLESC Brigadier General Mohammed Ahn said that the ceremony witnessed the graduation of 57 students with bachelor’s and diplomas in international fire safety engineering, international fire safety management, and emergency and crisis management, as well as 8 female officer candidates.
The graduates will work hard to harness their experience and knowledge to serve the State of Qatar and enhance its security, he said. He added that since its opening in 2013, the College has witnessed many developments that kept in touch with the reality of fieldwork at the academic or training level. It includes many training programs, workshops and courses that benefit several entities and institutions inside and outside the country.
The Director of the RLESC pointed out that the number of College graduates since the start of the 2016 academic year has reached 257 in several specialisations. The RLESC holds specialised training courses in the fields of safety, firefighting, rescue, and hazardous materials for approximately 12,000 trainees, representing both government and private agencies locally and regionally.
At the conclusion of his speech, the Director of the RLESC Brigadier General Mohammed Ahn stated that they aspire in the coming years to raise the number of students, increase educational programs, and diversify specialisations in a way consistent with the aspirations of the Supreme Council of the Police Academy.
Academic Dean at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) Professor Gary Bond said that this event affirms the constructive and valuable cooperation between the Police Academy, the RLESC and the UCLan.
Professor Bond expressed his gratitude to everyone who worked to provide a good educational environment as well as the students’ parents since without their care and cooperation, the students would not have reached this stage.
Student Ibrahim Mardi Al Shammari gave a speech on behalf of the graduates, expressing the graduates’ happiness in reaching this milestone that qualifies them to serve the nation after obtaining academic knowledge in emergency and accident response, search and rescue operations, health, and other specialisations.
The first mandatory qualification course for graduates of civil universities (8 trainees) was held by the Women’s Police Institute. The two-month course included various military and sports field training programs and police legal lectures, in addition to field visits to a number of authorities.
