DPAWashington Sadio Mane and Matthijs de Ligt were on target and the other newcomers also did well as Bayern Munich showed in a 6-2 victory over DC United on Wednesday night that they can also score after the departure of Robert Lewandowski.Former Liverpool forward Mane converted an early penalty against the Major League Soccer club, and de Ligt struck two minutes after coming on for the second half, the day after completing his move from Juventus.“Both players have made a good start,” coach Julian Nagelsmann said in praise of the duo.He added in the direction of Netherlands international de Ligt: “Matthijs scored a brilliant goal with his left foot. I saw his impressive passing with his left foot in training today, and now this brilliant finish as well.” Mane’s first half attacking partner Serge Gnabry, Marcel Sabitzer, Joshua Zirkzee and Thomas Müller got the other goals for the 10-time reigning Bundesliga champions in their first pre-season game. The half dozen goals were welcomed in the Munich camp and showed they still have plenty of firepower after top scorer Lewandowski left for Barcelona.“After Lewy’s departure we have to spread the goals over several shoulders. And that went well,” Müller said.Nagelsmann said: “I think we are dangerous enough to score many goals in the future ... We tried to do a few things differently compared to the past season.” Müller’s goal was set up suberbly by midfielder Ryan Gravenberch who together with full back Noussair Mazraoui is also new at Bayern after their arrival from Ajax.“Both have done really well, especially in training,” Nagelsmann said, adding on Gravenberch’s assist: “The final ball from Ryan was brilliant.” Gnabry praised the four newcomers as “top lads with top quality” and even though de Ligt only last half an hour he is expected back when Bayern have a more serious test on Sunday in Green Bay against English champions Manchester City.Their first official match is next week Saturday’s German Super Cup against RB Leipzig, with the Bundesliga opener following six days later at Europa League winners Eintracht Frankfurt.Another good showing Sunday could further boost Bayern who 12 months ago had failed to win any of their then four pre-season games.“We won. I feel better than last year,” Nagelsmann said.
