Minister of Public Health HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al Kuwari graced the opening of the 14th Gulf Heart Association Conference and 11TH Gulf Vascular Society Symposium at Doha Sheraton on Thursday.
After the opening ceremony, the minister inaugurated an exhibition taking place on the sidelines of the event attended by over 1,000 participants from all over the world. The conference will conclude on Saturday (January 13).
Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Hamad Medical Corporation's Head of Heart Failure Clinic Amr Badr, said,"The conference offers an opportunity to Qatar based specialists to learn about the latest devices and ways of management of heart diseases in the world while sitting in Doha."
"The gathering is important for education and research and will have tangible impact on the treatment of patients," he added.
The opening day of the conference featured a session on electrocardiography where the speakers discussed methods to differentiate between heart rhythm problems, causes of slow heart beats, and how to identify life threatening irregularities.
Another session featured the latest developments in heart devices, such as programming of internal heart defibrillators and various pacemakers.
A special workshop on 'Echocardiography' was also held with presentations of case studies as well as 3D and speckle tracking techniques.
The event featured a presentation focusing on arterial fibrillation, hereditary irregular heartbeats and sudden cardiac arrest among the youth and athletes. The effects of household electric devices and other electric instruments in hospitals and airports on heart pacemakers were discussed.
Conference Chairman of The Gulf Heart Association Dr Hajar al Binali also spoke on the occasion.
On Friday, the conference will focus on topics such as cardiovascular effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, pulmonary embolism and cardiovascular effect of drugs to treat diabetes.
