Qatar's young archer Abdulaziz Omar al Shahri secured a morale-boosting bronze medal at the Nimes 2018 Indoor World Cup Archery Championship in Nice, France on Friday.
Shahri was competing in the Recurve junior men's group event in which he finished third. Overall, 1,200 male and female archers are competing in the three-day championship, which began yesterday.
It is creditable achievement for promising Shahri as he is not only a young archer but also the only Arab in the event. Last season, he joined the national team and bagged two medals in the Emir Cup and Qatar Cup.
Shahri said he was excited with the result in his first competition abroad."The World Cup is the first foreign event for me. Ever since I was told about the event, I was preparing hard, organising my time between training and study.
"This opportunity provided me a valuable exposure in the World Cup. The experience and confidence I gained through this will be key for me in future events. I will try to win more medals for the support that the Qatar Shooting and Archery Association has been giving me," added Shahri.
