ITALIAN industrial designer and two-time Compasso d'Oro award-winner Giulio Iacchetti will be visiting Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar (VCUarts Qatar) and the Fire Station Cinema in early February as part of the Crossing Boundaries lecture series.
The lectures will be titled, 'Giulio Iacchetti: an Italian designer'.
In his lectures, Giulio Iacchetti will talk about concepts and drawings, about the love for modularity and archetypes and about the relationship between artisans and inclusive projects to describe a very Italian way of making industrial design.
The lectures will take place on February 5 (Monday) at 7pm at Fire Station Cinema and on February 6, at 1pm at VCUarts Qatar's Atrium. The lectures are free and open to the public. The lectures will be presented in Italian. Simultaneous translation in English will be available.
Giulio Iacchetti has designed for many brands including Moleskine, Alessi, Abet Laminati, Ceramiche Refin, Danese, Fontana Arte, Artemide, Foscarini, Magis and Pandora design. He has twice won Italy's most prestigious industrial design award, the Compasso d'Oro. The first time was in 2001 for the Moscardino, the biodegradable spoon/fork he designed with Matteo Ragni. In 2009, he was awarded the Premiodei Premi prize for innovation by the President of Italy, for the Coop Eureka project. In 2014, he won his second Compasso d'Oro for his designs of manhole covers called 'Sfera' (the Italian word for sphere), which he designed with Matteo Ragni for Montini.
