INDIAN community organisations are gearing up for the February 13 Qatar National Sport Day activities.
The events being organised by various sporting and socio-cultural groups affiliated to Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) will be attended by sports icons in Qatar, athletes from India and officials from the Embassy of India.
Indian Sports Centre (ISC), a forum which functions under the guidelines of the Embassy of India, will organise sporting meets at Qatar Sports Club (QSC), Museum of Islamic Art (MIA)Park and Asian Town.
The event will start with a yoga session for all communities at the MIA Park on February 9.
The QSC will be the venue of inter-school and inter-community sports meet.
"All the preparations are in its final phase and the events organised this year will beheld in an elaborate way to be attended by a large number of people," said Nilangshu Dey, president of ISC.
Moreover, a month-long sports festival organised by Indian forum,EnamakkalKettungal Welfare Association, will conclude on the Sport Day with a grand finale.
In its effort to support Qatar's sporting initiatives, Cultural Forum,a leading organisation of Indian community, will hold a sports fest titled,'Expats Sportive 2018' this month. Sixteen teams will take part in 18 events at the festival. President of ICC Milan Arun released a 'teaser' of the event recently. And General Secretary of ISC Habibun Nabi released the programme manual. The event was attended by President of the forum,TajAluva, sponsors and forum office-bearers.
An award 'Expats Sportive Excellence' will be conferred to prominent sports personalities who contributed to the sports industry in Qatar.
Another prominent Indian community organisation, Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre, will conduct a cricket tournament on the Sport Day.
