DOHA: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) signed an agreement with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) to establish a Technology Support and Innovation Center at the university.The agreement was signed by Director of the Intellectual Property Protection Department at MOCI Amna Jaber Al Kuwari and the General Counsel and General Counsel at the UDST Legal Affairs Directorate, Tamara Rida.

Under the agreement, the two parties agreed to collaborate in establishing a Technology Support and Innovation Center at UDST. The centre aims to ensure that users have access to services designed to meet their needs in the field of information technology, ensure technological development for institutions, develop research outcomes, provide research services to users in patent databases and other technical information sources through direct personal assistance, and identify technical problems related to institutions and research topics within universities and research institutes.

Director of Intellectual Property Protection Department Amna Jaber Al Kuwari expressed her happiness at signing the agreement, confirming that it aims to establish the first Technology Support Center at UDST. This initiative is part of the ministry's efforts to enhance the innovation ecosystem, empower entrepreneurs, support startups, enable researchers, and promote a culture of scientific research in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.

She added that the agreement will enhance cooperation between the two parties to provide more training courses for technology support and innovation centre staff and organize informational activities, awareness campaigns, and promotion with the support of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). These activities will include technical and scientific information about the services provided by the Technology Support and Innovation Center.

General Counsel at the UDST Legal Affairs Directorate, Tamara Rida, stated that this significant agreement marks a turning point in the trajectory of technology and innovation support at the national level. She added that the establishment of the first Technology and Innovation Support Center at the university underscores UDST's strong commitment to supporting innovation and development and reflects its continuous efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to stimulate scientific research, technology development, and innovation.

She emphasized the importance of joint work and constructive collaboration to achieve this through cooperation with national networks of technology and innovation support centres supervised by MoCI and in partnership with WIPO.
