Qatar has achieved another important milestone by becoming self-sufficient in electric cables required for the local market.
"Our production has increased manifold. Now, we can meet the local demand for electric cables (high, medium and low voltage electric cables). Qatar is now self- sufficient in the production of electric cables ," Chairman of Doha Cables Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al Thani told Qatar Tribune on Wednesday.
Sheikh Faisal's comments came as Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) on Wednesday signed two call-off agreements for supply of electric cables with Doha Cables and Qatar International Cables Company (QICC) for two years at a total cost of QR1.9 billion.
While the value of contracts with Doha Cables exceeds QR1.24 billion, the contract with QICC stood at QR640 million. As per the contracts, Doha Cables and QICC will supply 10,000km of cables to Kahramaa.
The agreements aim to meet Kahramaa's requirements for cables. Under the call-off agreement, the supplier provides materials to Kahramaa within two days of the order.
Kahramaa President Essa bin Hilal al Kuwari singed the contract with Doha Cables Chairman Faisal bin Qassim al Thani and Sheikh Fahd bin Hamad al Thani, the reprehensive of QICC.
"Now, Kahramaa is getting supply of 100 percent of medium voltage cables, the major requirement for its expansion. The new partnership with local suppliers will not only support the manufacturers but assure that the supply is stable and sustainable," Kuwari said.
Kahramaa's projects that include network expansion with innovative technology are on the right track and all the projects will be completed within the set timeframe.
