With less than 24 hours left for the seventh edition of the Qatar's National Sport Day (NSD), the country is high on sporting spirit.
Elaborate arrangements have been made at all the venues across the country to celebrate the National Sport Day with a host of fun-filled and healthy activities.
The second Tuesday of February of each year is being celebrated as National Sport Day. The main purpose of the day is to promote sports and educate people to reduce health risks associated with an inactive lifestyle.
Several locations such as Aspire Zone, Qatar Foundation, Katara Cultural Village, Museum of Islamic Arts and the Doha Corniche are all decked up for the occasion.
Various ministries, sport federations, corporate groups, banks along with different communities are slated to take part in the sporting extravaganza at several venues and landmarks across the country.
In addition, the ongoing Qatar Total Open provides tennis lovers the opportunity of meeting with the stars at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex.
Qatar Foundation (QF) is organising a host of fun and exciting sports activities suitable for the whole family with a 2km walkathon kickstarting the event.
The walkathon will start from the Education City Student Center at 8am while a 40km cycle and a 50km ultra marathon will take place for more experienced athletes, both starting at the Ceremonial Court at 8.20am.
Among other highlights of the day is the sporting festival, 'The Challenge', which will take place at Al Shaqab. Community members are invited to compete in teams across a series of challenging physical activities. The event, which runs from 9am to 4pm, is for those over 16 and will include activities that focus on strength, strategy, balance, concentration, and competition.
Additionally, QF's Oxygen Park will host events such as tennis, football, treasure hunt, rope jump, kangaroo sack race, beach tennis, pony riding and an array of fun activities for children.
Women-only activities will also be offered at the Education City Student Centre, and at Al Shaqab from 4.30 to 6.30pm.
There will also be family-oriented activities taking place at the QF Recreation Center, including swimming for children with autism, goal ball a football activity for the blind as well as a gymnastics and trampoline display, a squash tournament, and slalom football blindfolded football to raise awareness about blindness among others.
QF will also host outdoor games and activities on the Green Spine and at the Ceremonial Court throughout the day.
Meanwhile, Aspire Zone, besides being the venue of activities on the day for all the organisations that constitute the Aspire Zone Foundation, will also play host to various federations under the umbrella of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC).
The Qatar football family, which includes the Qatar Football Association (QFA), the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC) and the Qatar Stars League (QSL), will be joining forces once again to organise a staff football tournament at Aspire which will see teams from the football family compete for the title in a fun-filled environment.
At Katara, sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to take part in a Touch Rugby event scheduled for the beach side of the village besides other water and sailing sports competitions being organised by the Qatar Sailing and Rowing Federation.
Mall of Qatar will be organising a yoga class, a fitness challenge and a healthy breakfast.
